Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage is an ancient form of massage dating back 5000 years or more to Ayurvedic times. It has long been practised in India as part of the rich tradition of family grooming: the techniques were originally developed by women to keep heir hair strong and lustrous; today it is performed as part of the treatment given by barbers mainly to invigorate, stimulate and refresh.

The Westernised style of IHM involves massage of the upper back, shoulders, arms, neck, head and face. It still retains the capacity to help release tension and stimulate both the head (i.e. brain) and growth of the hair.
This relaxing but stimulating treatment is carried out fully clothed in a sitting position so is completely non-invasive. It utilises aromatherapy oils during the luxurious massage of the head and face: the use of these oils is optional.

The benefits of Indian Head Massage are both physical and psychological and can include:

  • a balanced feeling of calm and relaxation
  • alleviation of stress so revitalising the body
  • increased circulation of oxygen to the brain which can promote clearer thinking, alertness and concentration
  • relief of:
    headaches and migraine
    neck and shoulder pain
    jaw and facial tension
    sinus congestion
    eyestrain
    insomnia
  • promotion of hair growth

Following an IHM one can feel very relaxed and sleepy but within a few minutes the body will feel refreshed and revived - ready to continue afresh in GOOD HEALTH and more able to combat the stesses and strains of everyday life!
